Dominican Republic

Tourism

The Dominican Republic is a welcoming country. All our natural beauty, our history, investment and business opportunities, as well as the warmth of our citizens, motivate people from all over the world to visit us and enjoy a charming island full of opportunities.

The tourism boom, with growth of around 6.8% in 2017 for a total of US$ 7,177.5 million, is one of the factors that has underpinned one of the highest economic growth rates in Latin America in the last two decades.

Every year we reach a new record of people visiting our territory to spend their vacations: in 2017 we reached approximately 6,187,542 non-resident visitors via plane and 1,107,966 cruise passengers, with a growth of around 7.98%. If this trend continues, our goal to reach ten million visitors by the year 2022 will be achieved ahead of time.

The tourism industry has positioned itself as the largest generator of currency flows in the country, thanks to a capacity of more than 68,500 rooms in well-known hotel chains and 32 world-class golf courses. The more than 4.6 million visitors received by the country during 2013 generated revenues of more than US$ 5,100 million, making us the number one destination in the Caribbean.

There are still numerous growth opportunities for the sector, given the development of new tourist poles and recent public investments in infrastructure. This sector benefits from the Law No. 158-01 of Promotion of Tourism Development for the Centres for Tourism of Scarce Resources and New Centres for Tourism in Provinces and Potential Locations.
